A steady real estate market and good ol’ southern hospitality is helping people from all over the country find their way to the Tri-Cities. The Tri-Cities is a cluster of quaint yet modern cities near the Tennessee/Virginia border tucked into the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains and offers what many considered the perfect blend of tradition and city life.

The three cities are Kingsport, Johnson City and Bristol, TN/VA (Bristol is in both states). These three cities are seeing a large amount of growth over the past five years, and as people desire to experience the best of each city, they are actually growing towards each other. Bristol is home to NASCAR’s fastest half-mile track. Johnson City is known for its incredible medical facilities and East Tennessee State University, and Kingsport is home to some of America’s largest companies (Eastman Chemical, for example). As if it needed more, numerous ski slopes are reached in about an hour in Western North Carolina (Ski Beech, Sugar Mountain, Hawksnest, etc). Also, Ober Gatlinburg’s slopes, as well as Dollywood, Pigeon Forge, and Gatlinburg, TN are within that same drive time. An hour or so drive also gets you to the University of Tennessee in all its glory… with one of the largest football stadiums in the entire nation.

Historic Abingdon, VA is yet another destination within that reach, offering the timeless Martha Washington Inn and the famous Barter Theatre from days of old.

The culture of Asheville, NC is again another quick drive south on Interstate 40. There is no other lake community that is so perfectly situated in the heart of the best that Appalachia has to offer.

Just about any direction you choose takes you to another gem of a destination. The location is simply perfect. In addition, the climate offered by being tucked into the mountains on the north side of the Appalachians is what many conclude to be heaven. Being on the backside of the ancient mountain range keeps the coastal humidity and storms at bay, while offering three months of each season in all its dramatic splendor. Winters offer some snow and chilly days to sit next to your fireplace. Springs are incredible as it seems that everything is in blooming in ways you’ve never seen. The dramatic changes and lack of humidity are a perfect formula for some of the most dramatic leaf colors in autumn, and the summers are hot enough to make everyone want to find a way out onto the lake. The residents of the Tri-Cities have the fortune of enjoying 4 awesome lakes – Boone, Watauga, South Holston, Ft Patrick Henry.

Boone Lake is placed perfectly in the heart of the Tri-Cities… it couldn’t have been planned any better. You can actually launch your boat at any one of the cities and motor over to one of the other two. You can fish all day around the dam on the Kingsport side and then finish the day having drinks at Sonny’s Marina in Johnson City.
